A mobile exhibit business plan is a rare document and it will be difficult to find a working template or exact match for the sort of plan you are probably trying to prepare. The starting question, of course, is what sort of exhibit is this? Are you creating an art installation, running a mobile advertising platform, or seeking funds to contribute to an historical display of some sort? The other big question is what the purpose of the plan is. Do you need venture or angel financing? A modest bank loan? Is the exercise academic? Or do you simply want the document for your own purposes, i.e., as an internal operations document, or to have a working roadmap? No matter what your circumstance, it's a safe bet that you will need answers to these questions to proceed:
• What is the mobile exhibit's purpose?
• What are the likely construction costs?
• What is its lifespan expected to be?
• Are there costs attached to maintenance, permitting, etc.?
• How does it derive revenue?
The revenue question is an important one. Unless there are no sales generated, in which case you will need a not-for-profit pro forma model, you have to estimate the potential revenue and weigh it against the expenses you can predict you will face. The ideal pro forma model will include a start-up summary, personnel plan, revenue forecast, break-even point, cash flow analysis, profit and loss, and a balance sheet, along with a breakdown of the first year into monthly pieces. It's a lot to wrestle with but any banker will require it. Want help with this document?
