The documentary business plan is its own unique animal. Unlike a conventional business plan for a fixed location retail store or a new website using an ecommerce model, there really is no fixed "business model" that would apply to the documentary you're making. Your business plan, therefore, should be more of a descriptive document that talks about the film, the intended audience, the potential distribution, and the money you believe you could make. Some other points worth considering:
• What is your budget for the film?
• Do you have carriers in place?
• What about actors, staff, crew, etc.? Do you know how they will be compensated?
• When is the release date?
• What target audience do you envision -- what are their commonalities as viewers?
The documentary business plan, most importantly, should describe the film itself and get someone excited about the movie. Make the investor, distributor, or film company you are pitching *want* to be a part of the venture. What is unique about the movie? Why does it have a reasonable chance at commercial success or independent acclaim? Make your case, and get your funding. MasterPlans can help.
