Business plan pics – which ones are appropriate? If you're struggling to figure out whether you should include pictures in your business plan, or where, or just wondering what value they might add, it's worth considering your audience and how they'll view the photos. Who are your readers? Are you presenting the document internally to stakeholders (like as a roadmap) or do you need to try to educate someone who might know nothing about what your technology or service is? Investors tend to be savvy people, and venture capitalists have “seen it all,†but if you have an advanced concept or your business involves the commercialization of something that's difficult to grasp without photos, then by all means include them. Any of the following can add value:
• Project development pictures
• Blueprints of any new construction
• Sketches of patent-pending technologies
• Site photos (for retail locations, commercial developments, etc.)
• Marketing “in action†(billboards, trade show booths, etc.)
Even headshots can lend some personality to the management summary, if you have them. There's no harm in trying to make the plan appear more professional and engaging for an investor, just don't go overboard – no one wants to wade through 50 pages of appendix. If an investor is especially interested in a certain aspect of your work, they'll surely request more examples, and you can deliver them at that time. For the rest, make sure your business plan is convincing without the photos – and even more compelling with them. Want a second opinion?
