Trying to find a business plan for the iPad? There's really no great app for this, at least not as of this writing, and it's significantly easier to labor through the process of creating a business plan using computer-based software than to build into a web browser on the iPad. Despite the device's huge popularity and success as a mobile web browsing and multimedia device, Apple's iPad and iPad 2 are not designed for complete computer functionality. In short, you aren't really meant to be writing an entire business plan on the iPad. That doesn't mean the time won't come, perhaps soon, when an app will help you get all the details down, but there just isn't a true substitute for Word and Excel on this one. That said, the iPad can certainly help you compile some research. Among the things you'll need to know:
• What is the market for your product or service?
• How many potential buyers are there?
• What marketing campaigns will you use most?
• How will you spend the capital you receive?
• Who do you need to recruit to help run the business?
The use of funds (start-up summary) and personnel forecast (showing your hires, their salaries, and a timeline) are just two of the important components that go into the financial pro forma, which is a major undertaking and could be very difficult to peck out on an iPad spreadsheet. Ultimately, the business plan's pro forma should include tables showing your anticipated revenues, break-even point, profit and loss, cash flows, balance sheet, and the first year in a monthly format with details about each major event. You also need to describe yourself, the market needs, your chief competitors, the service/product you deliver, and how you plan to exit the business, if applicable. Sound like too much for the iPad?
