Looking for a great business plan archive? You'll find one in a few places online, for sure; just don't be surprised if the templates you discover for free aren't quite up to par. There are a million business ideas out there, and while some of the most common models – coffee shops, car washes, doggie day cares, etc. – might seem like they'd equip be topics where you could find a great sample plan, don't be so sure. The Internet is full of business materials and templates, but few are worth their salt. Consider everything that you need to know in order to write a strong business plan that's funding-ready… this list is only just the beginning:
• The target market for your product/service, by the numbers
• The state of this industry locally, on the state level, and nationally
• The primary competition you will face (their sales, strengths, etc.)
• Your staffing plan – hiring timelines, positions, wages, etc.
• The funding allocation you will follow for the start-up
And this is only part of the equation. The research required for a good business plan does not end with the market. You need to know your customers and their demographics/commonalities/needs, but you also have to understand what they're willing to pay you and how that translates into your cash flow. The assumptions table in a business plan is something to take very seriously, and no template will equip you with the “right answers.†Your financial model should include a use of funds/highlights overview, the revenue forecast, break-even analysis, profit and loss, cash flow, and balance sheet.
