A biofuel technology business plan is a detail-oriented and research-driven document that is generally compiled by industry experts or a CFO already working in the field. In order to create a believable pro forma, you will need to create a set of working assumptions about how much biofuel you can sell, the prevailing cost/rates over a period of five years, and your OpEx for the same time frame. There is little debate that biofuels create a compelling market opportunity, but the barriers to entry are considerable. Your business plan should highlight that you have the experience in this industry to succeed. Your executive bios are important, clearly, but you also need to show salient market research that supports your main points:
• What is the industry forecast for biofuel sales over the next five years?
• What are the other big players in this market?
• How do you compete against conventional fuel sources?
• What are the hurdles to adoption or increased market share?
• Who are your projected offtakers?
The business plan for biofuels should also have a section that details the process behind the biofuel generation and refinement and the capital equipment required for the plant that will be used to process the fuels. Where will it be located and what materials are required? Can you itemize your costs and show the relative depreciation rates of the critical machinery? The pro forma should outline the rate of fuel generation and the quantities that are likely to be purchased each year. For Year One, showing a detailed projection with a monthly breakdown is generally required by most investors. MasterPlans has the experience you need to get this plan done well -- and done quickly.
